book review

Stillness Speaks

by Eckhart Tolle

A thin book with chapters that are short and to the point. If you have read any of Eckhart Tolle's books you will know where he is coming from. This is a collection of short phrases and paragraphs that remind you of his concepts of stillness.
A book to dip into and mull over - not a cover to cover read.

If you are unfamiliar with Eckhart Tolle then "The Power of Now" is probably a better option.

One Giant Leap

by Duncan Bridgeman and Jamie Catto

Not a book but a DVD! A must-see for those who take a holistic world view. A documentary/musical odyssey that straddles the globe to re-mix the collective of world music; interspersed with social commentary.

My personal favourite for the last few years. Every watch/listen brings a new angle and a new dimension to the chaos of this world we live in.

Watch in wonder!

Ask and It Is Given

by Esther Hicks and Jerry Hicks

If you can get over Esther "channeling" a group consciousness from the non-physical dimension called Abraham (I know, a big ask!) but if you can then the message is simple, practical and almost too easy to believe.
Learning to manifest your desires is about thinking, vibrating and choosing those thoughts that feel right to you.

Suspend your disbelief and give it a go... you will be surprised at the results.

The Book of Secrets

by Deepak Chopra

In my quiet moments I sometimes think it would be great to explore the various philosophies and hidden wisdoms that great thinkers and spiritual leaders have unearthed over the recorded history of mankind. But let's face it, that is a life's work. If you're like me it's easier to find someone else who has pondered these mysteries and then read their book.
Dr Chopra, the guru of mind-body medicine has done the hard work for you and condensed it into 15 secrets. Not as simple and easy to grasp as Dr. Dyer's 10 secrets, but then unlocking the hidden dimensions of life is more complex than looking for personal success.

The God Delusion

by Richard Dawkins

Critically acclaimed or religiously discredited?
Dawkins' book looks at what many religions believe as fact and examines the evidence to support these factual beliefs. His God Hypothesis looks at the theistic idea of God as the creator of the universe who directly effects the physical world... so Dawkins goes looking for the evidence of his/her hand.
Even if you are a devout believer in the Divine you won't be surprised that signs to support his/her existence all require faith without question. But Dawkins' does question and he finds that there are other plausible reasons that explain the underlying facts.

Richard Dawkins won the British Book Awards Author of the Year for this clinical dissection of religious belief.

You Can Heal Your Life

by Louise Hay

A self-help book of how you can positively change your outlook on life and yourself using affirmations. The basic premise is that the way we feel inside effects our health, both mental and physical. Louise Hay is a complete believer in mind over body.

A few days of loving yourself may have dramatic results!

10 Secrets for Success and Inner Peace

by Wayne W. Dyer

Not the first book to list the secrets for innner peace, but this is put in a short, easy to understand way. Although it's written for an American Christian audience the general ideas are accessible to anyone.

The First Secret: Have a mind that is open to everything and attached to nothing.
The Second Secret: Don't die with your music still in you.
The Third Secret: You can't give away what you don't have.
The Fourth Secret: Embrace silence.
The Fifth Secret: Give up your personal history.
The Sixth Secret: You can't solve a problem with the same mind that created it.
The Seventh Secret: There are no justified resentments.
The Eighth Secret: Treat yourself as if you already are what you'd like to be.
The Ninth Secret: Treasure your divinity.
The Tenth Secret: Wisdom is avoiding all thoughts that weaken you.

Tomorrow's God : Our Greatest Spiritual Challenge

by Neale Donald Walsch

If you feel that there is something wrong with the current notion of organised religion and a wrathful supreme being, then this book will show you an alternative view. Of the 4200 different religions practiced in the world today the majority firmly reject the teachings of the other 4199 - so where do we stand in this globalised world? Maybe Neale Donald Walsch of the "Conversations with God" fame can shed some light on what so many people grasp onto and call the truth.
