There are numerous websites and self-help books with information about how to meditate. Most are connected with a certain religion, spiritual guru or prescribed path that you must follow to learn how to meditate. Meditate-online.org does not believe this is necessary to gain the benefits of a calm mind.
We know that most people looking for meditation techniques are just looking for a simple way to find an effective method to practice meditation. We believe that guided meditations allow you to do just that - meditate. It is a much easier and satisfying way than sitting on your own in silence, struggling with your own thoughts.

Meditation Techniques
All the different ways of meditating that you might come across are based on two basic techniques:
1. Concentrative meditation
This technique is about focusing your mind on one specific thing. It could be a sound, image, mantra or simply just your breathing. At the same time as focusing your mind you block out unwanted thoughts, leading to a quieter state of consciousness.
2. Mindfulness meditation.
This technique seeks to allow the flow of thoughts and feelings to continue, but at the same time to only witness them and not to become involved. This is a non-reactive way of looking into the workings of your own mind.
The concentrative technique quietens the mind by focusing on a single thought, the mindful technique allows you to step outside the thought process and observe for afar. Both techniques can be difficult for beginners, or even for experienced meditators who have many outside distractions.
Guided meditation allows you to give control of the session to your guide, making it easier to actually mediate. You don't have to worry about what you should be doing next. You don't have to be concerned about the technique you are using. You don't need to check the time to see if you've been too long or too short.
Guided meditations allow you to do what you want - just meditate.
